Dubrovnik City Walls: Complete Guide to Walking the Walls

The Dubrovnik city walls is one of the most iconic and popular attractions in the city. Walking the intact fortified wall that surrounds Dubrovnik’s old town offers a unique perspective of the city. The wall runs 1.25 miles (1940 meters) with varying heights and lots of stairs. The three entrances and exits around the wall allows you to choose how far you’d like to go. We recommend doing the walk in its’ entirety if you have the time.

Not only does the walk provide breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea and the historic rooftops of Dubrovnik, but it also gives you a glimpse into the city’s fascinating past. Built between the 12th and 17th centuries to defend against invaders, these walls are incredibly well-preserved. They are now a testament to Dubrovnik’s rich cultural and architectural heritage.

How do you get on top of the wall in Dubrovnik?

There are three main entrances to the Dubrovnik City Walls. The first and most popular is on the western end of the Old Town. It’s located at the top of Stradun (Placa) near the Large Onofrio’s Fountain and the Church of the Holy Savior. The second entrance is on the eastern side near the inner Ploče Gate.
