The charming, Victorian style boutique hotel Welgelegen was the perfect retreat during our three adventure filled days in Cape Town. Welgelegen is formed from the unification of two Victorian-era houses, joined by an outdoor seating area and small plunge pool. Its immediately apparent that the furnishings and decor are the epitome of comfort and luxury and still retains the historic character of the original homes. Fiona, the owner, greeted us with a warm welcome and an informative introduction to Cape Town before providing us with a brief tour of the hotel and showing us to our rooms. Within minutes we were served a complimentary glass of wine, home-made cookies and fresh fruit. Our spacious room, with a view of Table Mountain was effortlessly chic with a large, plush bed and outdoor patio room, the perfect ambiance for enjoying a morning coffee.Welgelegen is situated in a quiet, residental neighborhood on the edge of the city center at the base of Table Mountain. A short walk from the hotel is Aloof street. Buzzing with trendy restaurants, you are bound to find somewhere delicious to eat.
A delicous and generous continental breakfast is served in the dining room every morning as well as a hot meal of your choice. We highly recommend The Black Sheep Restaurant. Their blackboard style menu guarantees you’ll see some exciting new menu items and trust us, everything is delicious! Also, be sure to try a pint of the locally brewed Black Jack lager, you’ll be happy you did! Seats fill up quickly at this popular eatery so be sure to make a reservation so you don’t miss out on some of their mouth-watering dishes.
