Brunch: The Most Important Meal of the Day and Where You Should Go to Eat It!

Brunch is, hands down, our favorite meal.

Seriously, what’s not to love? Fluffy pancakes, healthy omelets, cinnamon-sugar crusted french toast, yogurt with muesli and hot coffee! Or chai lattes, mimosas and bloody mary’s if that’s more your speed!

We’ve tested out quite a few brunch spots around the world to bring you our favorites and we plan on continuing to scope out more mouth-watering spots so keep checking back!

The Avocado Show- Amsterdam

Avocado lovers rejoice! Having just opened in spring 2017 in the trendy De Pijp neighborhood, The Avocado Show is the first of its kind in Amsterdam to feature avocados as the main event.

All of their beautifully presented dishes revolve around the delicious, green fruit. From avocado smoothies and guacamole bloody mary’s to eggs benedict served in avocado boats. The world’s obsession with avocado’s doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon!

Address: Daniel Stalpertstraat 61 HS, 1072 XB Amsterdam

The Avocado Show is open from 9:00 to 17:00 everyday

The Breakfast Club- London

With ten of these hip, eclectic breakfast spots sprinkled all over London’s popular neighborhoods, it will be easy to secure your spot for a delicious start to your day.

We’ve frequented the location near Spitalfield’s Market on more than one occasion and there’s a reason we keep coming back for more. Located just off the main street near the Liverpool Street Station, The Breakfast Club serves up generous portions off their extensive brunch menu.

Luckily, if you can’t make it there by noon their all day brunch, lunch and dinner menu looks just as yummy. If you’re looking for a place to go for a night cap, check back into The Breakfast Club for their *shhh* hidden bar just behind the SMEG refrigerator! I won’t spill anymore details so you’ll just have to see for yourself.

Opening hours for the Spitalfield’s location vary during the week and weekend.  From Monday to Wednesday they are open from 7.30am – 11pm; Thursday and Friday from 7.30am – Midnight; Saturday from 8am – Midnight; and Sunday from 8am – 10.30pm. With these opening hours there really is no excuse to not stop in during your stay in London!

Snickarbaken 7-Stockholm

From the moment I stepped inside, Snickarbaken 7 cafe quickly became my favorite place in Stockholm, Sweden.

Located in Stockholm’s Ostermalm neighborhood, the narrow entryway opens up into a spacious seating area with large table and plenty of seating. The walls are lined with contemporary art by local and international artists that is for sale and changes every couple of months. The true gem of this trendy cafe is the cute shop tucked in the back corner. Here you can find modern houseware, kitchen appliances, pottery and my favorite Swedish jewelry designer BOW Label for sale.

Even though their menu is quite small, the food is so delicious that a large selection is unnecessary. Come here for breakfast, lunch or just to enjoy the atmosphere of this charming space.

The Cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 9-17. The shop is open Monday through Friday 11-17 and Saturday from 12-17.

Distrikt Coffee- Berlin

Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes. I cannot stress this enough- do not leave Distrikt Coffee without indulging in their oh-so fluffy pancakes served alongside their citrus butter and mixed berry compote.

The menu is small but there is no lack of flavor in any of their dishes. Their talented Barista’s also whip up a fabulous Chai tea latte and I’ll admit we’ve had more than one at brunch with another one to go. You really can’t get enough of a good thing!

The exposed brick, open layout and industrial lighting oozes a cozy, rustic vibe from the second you walk in the door. On a cold, rainy day in Berlin I could probably stay in Distrikt Coffee all day long. Probably, most definitely, eating pancakes the entire time.

Distrikt Coffee is open Monday through Friday from 8:30-17h and Sat/Sun from 9:30-17h. No reservations.

Gs – Amsterdam

With a tag line of “a really nice place,” its easy to see why this brunch spot is incredibly popular.

Gs Amsterdam, a brunch restaurant in the heart of AmsterdamLocated in one of Amsterdam’s old row houses in the Jordaan District, Gs is a quaint spot with a quirky, eclectic theme.

The eclectic interior of Gs Amsterdam in the Jordaan districtIf bloody mary’s are your thing, they offer a few unique spins on the old classic including one with fried chicken! Their menu caters to all palates whether you want to go for a healthier option or indulge in something sweet.

They have a few locations around the city (not just in the Jordaan District) including a brunch boat where you can eat, drink and get a tour of Amsterdam’s famous canals! How awesome is that? Setting sail every Fri, Sat & Sun, make sure to reserve your spot in advance. We joined Gs retractable-roof brunch boat during our last visit to Amsterdam and we think you should too!

Poonie’s Kitchen- Galle Fort, Sri Lanka

Having eaten my fair share of Kottu Roshi for the majority of my time in Sri Lanka, I was craving some wholesome, healthy food.

Arriving at Poonie’s Kitchen for lunch made me feel like I’d stumbled upon a secret location in the heart of Galle Fort. Although easy to find, located directly off the main street, the cozy café is a quiet escape for a delicious meal.

While their menu isn’t exactly designed for brunch, there are plenty of breakfast style options that you will easily find something you’ll want to sink your teeth into. I enjoyed it so much that I ate here twice and probably devoured more than I should have!

But seriously, don’t leave Galle Fort without tasting their summery thai salad and, as they say, the best carrot cake ever!

They are opened Monday through Friday from 10am to 5:30pm

Greenwoods- Amsterdam

Over the years, Greenwoods has secured its spot as one of Amsterdam’s favorite English Tea Rooms. With two locations in the heart of the city, Greenwoods is a popular breakfast spot that dishes up more than just tea and scones. During our visit we checked out the cozy, 2-story space along the Keizersgracht canal.

Escaping the cold, drizzly weather, we warmed ourselves with their delicious Chai tea lattes and wasted no time filling our bellies with an equally delicious home cooked meal. Even after I was stuffed from gobbling up my entire meal (on the menu as ‘The Veggie’) I still made space to devour the basket filled with Greenwoods signature homemade soda bread.

The atmosphere of Greenwoods is inviting and charming– making it easy to see why family and friends gather here to reconnect and refresh. Just make sure you arrive early as there is usually a line waiting out the door.

Address: Keizersgracht 465, 1017 DK Amsterdam

Open Monday through Thursday from 09:30 – 16:00 and Friday through Sunday from 09:30 to 17:00

Le Vespe Cafe- Florence

It’s about time Italy joins the ever so popular brunch scene. Traditionally, Italian breakfasts consist of your basic, but classically delicious, espresso and brioche. While there is nothing wrong with the simplicity of their easy, on-the-go breakfasts, it is sometimes nice to sit down and enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on a day of exploration.

Enter Le Vespe Cafe, a welcoming restaurant in the heart of Florence. There are actual egg dishes on the menu and smoothies! Anyone whose visited Italy knows just how rare it is to find these items on a menu!

Fortunately, Le Vespe Cafe offers a wide array of menu items, including gluten free and vegan sweets, to satisfy all visitors in this famous Tuscan town.

Peck 47- Brussels

Peck 47 is located on Rue Marche aux Poulets 47 (aka Chicken Market Street- bonus points for their sense of humor) in the heart of Brussels. Looking over their mouthwatering menu it was actually quite difficult to select only one item. So we compromised by ordering fresh squeezed juices and yogurt with granola to share.

The juices are served in the most adorable mason jars with colorful straws that make you feel like your at your own little private party. Also, whoever thought of putting Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine on a waffle was pure genius even being in the land of Belgium waffles!

We loved it here and wish we’d discovered this little slice of brunch perfection sooner!

They are open Monday through Friday from 7:30-22:00 and Sat/Sun from 8:00-22:00

Queen of Tarts – Dublin

Quiche & Scones. Oh, and strawberry & rhubarb crumble. Three brunch staples that should be in everyone’s diet. At least they are in mine! And luckily for me, the popular Queen of Tart’s serves all of these. Which is what makes them our go-to cafe when in Dublin.
